About this plugin
Bite Harder is a frequency-selective bit crusher from Denise Audio that distinguishes itself through granular control over which spectral ranges receive degradation. The plugin's central feature is a push-pull graph interface that lets you draw custom frequency response curves, determining which bands get crushed and to what degree. This approach moves beyond the flat, all-or-nothing character of traditional bit reduction, opening possibilities for surgical texture application or intentional spectral destruction.
The plugin combines classic bit and sample rate reduction with complementary tools: a Silky control that smooths quantization artifacts, a Distort stage for harmonic saturation, and a Clipper for peak management. A Drive parameter adds overall intensity. The effects layer includes Repeat and Stutter, Glitch, and Random Trigger options that introduce chopped, stuttering elements - useful for adding rhythmic complexity or pure sonic chaos depending on your intent.

Bite Harder occupies middle ground between clinical restoration tools and purely destructive sound design instruments. It's suited for producers working in electronic, industrial, and experimental genres who need to age or degrade sources with precision, or for engineers seeking non-linear parallel processing paths on drums and synths. The frequency-aware approach makes it practical for detail work - crushing only upper midrange resonances or isolating bass degradation - rather than sacrificing clarity wholesale.
Presets from Florian Meindl provide starting points for aggressive sound design. The plugin's strength lies in its selective degradation philosophy combined with automation-friendly controls, making it genuinely useful beyond novelty applications.
