About this plugin
D16 Group's Classic Boxes Collection bundles two essential synthesizer emulations: Phoscyon 2 and Drumazon 2. The pairing addresses a fundamental need in modern production: authentic recreation of the Roland TR-303 and TR-909, instruments that defined electronic music's sonic vocabulary.
Phoscyon 2 represents a significant step forward in 303 emulation. D16 redesigned the entire signal path from their previous version, achieving accuracy that captures the instrument's character across different hardware units. The inclusion of calibration parameters and service trim pots acknowledges what experienced users already know: original 303s exhibit notable variation in filter behavior and pitch stability. Rather than presenting a single "idealized" 303, Phoscyon 2 lets you dial in specific hardware characteristics, lending credibility to its approach.

Drumazon 2 similarly reconstructs the 909's drum synthesis engine, modeling all eleven percussion voices with attention to the original's sonic fingerprint. The emulation handles the 909's particular resonance character and circuit behavior, which remain difficult to capture convincingly in software.
The collection includes over 800 presets and patterns, though experienced producers will likely use these as starting points rather than finished sounds. MIDI Learn implementation enables real-time control mapping, essential for performance-oriented work.
These tools serve producers working in techno, acid, and electronic music genres where authenticity matters. The emulations occupy middle ground - more accurate than basic software recreations but without attempting the encyclopedic circuit-level modeling of boutique tools. For most working producers, the Classic Boxes Collection offers practical, sonically credible alternatives to hardware ownership.
