About this plugin
Cherry Audio's Wurlybird 140B is a meticulously sampled recreation of the 1964 Wurlitzer 140B electric piano, an instrument whose sonic signature has defined decades of rock, soul, and pop production. Rather than relying on synthesis or modeling alone, the plugin captures the mechanical character of Tom Hammer's professionally restored 140B through comprehensive multi-velocity sampling, preserving the tonal nuance and dynamic response that made the original irreplaceable in studios and on stages.
The architecture centers on sampled key strikes paired with faithfully emulated preamp circuitry, the latter being crucial to the 140B's particular warmth and compression characteristics. Vibrato and tremolo implementations match the original's behavior with precision, while adjustable background hum allows producers to dial in period-appropriate electrical noise. Subtle velocity-dependent pedal and key release variations add organic complexity that resist the sterile quality often associated with sample-based instruments.

Eight integrated effects - arranged as stompbox-style processors - provide genuine utility for shaping tone without requiring external processing chains. The 50 included presets span credible territory from vintage to contemporary applications, though experienced users will quickly develop personal settings.
Wurlybird 140B serves producers and session musicians who require the 140B's specific tonal character without investing in the increasingly expensive original hardware. The 140B's superior action and tone compared to later Wurly models like the 200A justify this focus. Players accustomed to the instrument's physical resistance and response will find the sampling approach more satisfying than purely synthesized alternatives. For rock, soul, and indie production, this plugin delivers authentic period tone with professional workflow integration.
