About this plugin
Cherry Audio's MS Vintage Bundle brings the Korg MS-20, one of synthesisdom's most distinctive instruments, into Voltage Modular as a comprehensive collection of five modules. The bundle centers on faithful recreations of the MS-20's defining character: aggressive, lo-fi oscillators and a distinctly colored dual filter topology that has influenced countless electronic music productions since the 1970s.
The VCO-20 and Poly VCO-20 modules capture the MS-20's characteristic oscillator sound, including the instrument's idiosyncratic ring modulation behavior and slightly gritty waveform character. The VCF-20 filter - available in both monophonic and polyphonic variants - represents the heart of the bundle's sonic signature. A version 35 filter from an original unit was used as reference material, and the dual highpass/lowpass architecture remains true to the source, allowing series, parallel, or mixed configurations. This flexibility is crucial, as the MS-20's filter behavior fundamentally differs from modern Moog-style designs, offering distinctly Japanese coloration that producers seeking vintage aggression find irreplaceable.

The ESP-20 External Signal Processor extends the bundle's utility significantly. Its frequency-to-voltage converter analyzes incoming audio and generates control voltages, effectively allowing any monophonic sound source - voice, guitar, or acoustic instrument - to modulate synthesis parameters. This section retains the original's character while offering extended range compared to the hardware version.
The MS Vintage Bundle suits producers working in experimental electronic music, tape-based composition, and vintage-forward sound design. It's essential for anyone seeking authentic Japanese synth character within Voltage Modular's modular environment, though integration requires understanding of patch-based synthesis.
