Atomika

Cherry Audio's Atomika is a circuit-modeled recreation of the Polivoks, a compact Soviet synthesizer that gained cult status among sound designers despite its obscure manufacturing run between 1982 and 1990. The original instrument's character stems from Vladimir Kuzmin's unconventional filter design, which repurposed programmable op-amps outside their intended application to create a distinctly gritty, aggressive tonal signature unavailable in Western analog designs. DSP engineer Mark Barton's emulation captures this essential quality while extending the instrument's capabilities substantially.

The software version expands the original duophonic limitation to 16-voice polyphony and introduces filter modes beyond the stock lowpass response, including highpass, notch, and peak configurations. Novel parameters such as Filter Drive, Amp Drive, and a Starve control allow deeper tonal manipulation while remaining sonically coherent with the source hardware. The enhanced LFO provides additional waveform options, and velocity sensitivity, aftertouch response, and glide functionality address practical performance gaps in the original design.

A secondary effects panel integrates phasor, flange/chorus, echo, and reverb processing with a dedicated modulation LFO, providing comprehensive sound design capabilities within a single plugin window. The interface authentically reproduces the hardware aesthetic while remaining accessible to modern workflows.

Atomika serves producers and sound designers seeking aggressive, characterful synthesis with Eastern European sonic DNA.
