About this plugin
Cattaneo Electric Piano from Have Audio is a meticulously sampled electric piano instrument based on a heavily modified classic electromechanical model. The plugin captures the tonal character of this bespoke source with considerable authenticity, sampling 647 hits across five discrete channels that can be mixed independently: the primary piano tone, a dedicated human layer capturing hand noise and key contact, two sound design layers (swell and granular), and a supplementary color channel derived from tuned crystal glasses. This architectural approach grants producers surgical control over the instrument's constituent elements while maintaining coherence.
The sonic palette leans toward the dreamlike and atmospheric rather than transparent recreation. Electromechanical pianos inherently possess a compressed, slightly nasal character, and Cattaneo embraces this quality rather than attempting to sanitize it. The inclusion of full sustain pedal responsiveness with authentic noise behavior elevates playability authenticity significantly. The tape section introduces intentional degradation through selectable cassette hiss profiles and frequency wobble, allowing users to push the instrument into lo-fi territory without sacrificing musicality.

Complementary processing includes attack shaping, six reverb algorithms, delay with ping-pong capability, and three assignable pedal FX slots offering saturation, compression, EQ, chorus, phaser, and Leslie effects. The arpeggiator provides rhythmic functionality for melodic exploration.
Cattaneo suits producers seeking electric piano textures that evoke specific historical periods or aesthetic moods rather than maximally transparent acoustic performance. It performs exceptionally well in neo-soul, ambient, and experimental contexts where character and intentional imperfection drive artistic intent. Among specialized electric piano instruments, its sound design flexibility and authentic mechanical modeling distinguish it competently.
