About this plugin
Smoov is a program-dependent compressor that prioritizes transparency and responsiveness, drawing architectural inspiration from classic hardware units while operating as a modern software tool. The plugin's core strength lies in its peak detection algorithm, which identifies actual signal amplitude rather than envelope-following, enabling it to intercept transients with minimal latency and integrate them seamlessly into the surrounding mix.
The program-dependent compression envelope automatically adjusts attack and release characteristics based on input signal behavior, reducing the need for manual tweaking while maintaining a musical, organic compression character. This approach is particularly effective on dense, complex sources where traditional compression might introduce audible artifacts or require extensive parameter adjustment.

Smoov offers four distinct ratio modes spanning expansion, gating, standard compression, infinite limiting, and negative over-compression, providing flexibility across diverse mixing scenarios. The inclusion of sidechain inputs with integrated filtering expands its utility for frequency-selective ducking and creative control applications.
The plugin's transparent sonic signature makes it suitable for sources requiring dynamic control without colorization - vocals, drums, bass, and full mixes all benefit from its clean processing. Engineers working with busy arrangements will appreciate its ability to tame peaks without sacrificing perceived dynamics, while those seeking surgical precision will find the sidechain capabilities valuable for specialized mixing tasks.
Positioned among transparent compressors with genuine hardware DNA, Smoov occupies a practical middle ground between fully automated and fully manual compression tools. It's best suited for mixing engineers and producers who value both ease of use and sonic clarity, requiring minimal fussing while delivering dependable, professional results across varied material.
