About this plugin
WidthShaper 3 is a multiband mid-side processor that gives producers and engineers granular control over stereo imaging across three independent frequency bands. Each band features its own modulation engine, combining drawable waveforms with envelope followers and MIDI triggering, allowing for dynamic width manipulation that responds to musical content rather than static settings alone.
The plugin addresses a genuine technical need: most stereo wideners operate on the full frequency spectrum, often compromising low-end phase coherence or creating uncontrolled artifacts at extreme settings. WidthShaper's approach remains inherently mono-compatible by operating exclusively in the mid-side domain, making it equally viable for mixing and mastering applications where translation matters. The tight mono bass capability directly solves a persistent mixing challenge, while independent band control enables natural-sounding spatial separation without sacrificing technical integrity.

The interface prioritizes waveform editing, allowing users to draw custom modulation curves rather than selecting from preset shapes. This, combined with sample-accurate beat synchronization and audio-triggered envelope followers, grants access to creative stereo movements previously requiring multiple plugins or complex automation.
WidthShaper 3 integrates into Cableguys' ShaperBox 3 ecosystem, meaning it stacks seamlessly with other processors using identical workflow conventions. This modular approach appeals to producers invested in cohesive signal chain design.
The tool sits between specialized stereo imaging tools and general-purpose EQs, proving most valuable for mixing engineers handling dense arrangements, mastering professionals requiring surgical control, and sound designers pursuing unconventional spatial effects. Its technical soundness and editing depth position it among the more capable stereo processors currently available.
