About this plugin
LiquidShaper is a multiband modulation plugin from Cableguys that combines flanging and phasing capabilities within their ShaperBox 3 ecosystem. The plugin excels at generating the classic jet-plane sweep associated with flanging while delivering the lush, dimensional character of vintage phasing, with both effects operating on independently controllable frequency bands.
Technically, LiquidShaper's flanger relies on ultra-short delay modulation to achieve its characteristic comb-filtering artifacts, while the phaser section offers up to 16 cascaded all-pass stages for transparent, musical frequency sweeps. The core strength lies in its modulation control: a drawable LFO engine allows precise shaping of center frequency and feedback movements, with sync options tied to song tempo, MIDI triggers, or audio transients. The envelope follower adds dynamic reactivity, making the effect respond to incoming signal dynamics rather than operating on fixed patterns alone.

The multiband architecture justifies LiquidShaper's inclusion in professional workflows, permitting simultaneous application of different effects across frequency ranges - flanging on highs while phasing the lows, for example. Polarity switches and stereo detuning parameters expand sonic possibilities beyond standard implementations, though these are refinements rather than revolutionary features.
LiquidShaper occupies a niche between basic modulation and comprehensive synthesis tools. It's best suited for producers and mixers seeking sophisticated movement effects without the learning curve of deeper sound design platforms. While not groundbreaking, its drawable LFO interface and modulation triggering options position it as a capable, modern alternative to hardware-inspired competitors, particularly when layered with other Shapers within ShaperBox 3.
