Product Overview
The bx_megadual is Brainworx's circuit-accurate emulation of the Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier, one of modern rock's most sonically versatile amplifiers. Unlike single-character amp plugins, this emulation captures the Dual Rectifier's defining strength: its ability to traverse from articulate cleans and warm crunch to aggressive high-gain territory without sacrificing musicality across the spectrum.
The plugin architecture includes three independent channels, eight selectable tone modes, and a Variac control that simulates reduced output transformer voltage for dialing in sag and compression characteristics. These aren't cosmetic features - they represent genuine tonal variables that serious players and engineers depend on for tone shaping. The emulation was developed with the level of circuit analysis that Brainworx has become known for, capturing not just frequency response but the dynamic behavior and nonlinear saturation characteristics that define the amp's character.
Where bx_megadual distinguishes itself is its convolution engine, which includes 64 impulse responses derived from real-world studio sessions. Dirk Ulrich produced these IRs using three MEGA cabinets, nine high-end microphones (both vintage and contemporary), and a NEVE VXS72 console at Brainworx's facility. This approach renders the typically complex and equipment-intensive task of amp recording into a straightforward plugin workflow.
The plugin is essential for producers and engineers who track electric guitar regularly and value both authenticity and flexibility. It occupies a serious position among amp emulation tools, offering the tonal breadth and technical depth that professional sessions demand without requiring a warehouse of expensive hardware.
