About this plugin
The bx_glue represents Brainworx's interpretation of the VCA compression architecture that defined 1980s British console design. Rather than emulating a single unit, the plugin provides parametric control over the core sonic characteristics of that era: the harmonic coloration, transient behavior, and cohesive density that made VCA compression the standard choice for bus compression.
The dual-band compression engine is the functional centerpiece. Splitting low and high frequency content allows independent ratio and threshold settings, with a Band Link parameter that shifts between full multiband separation and traditional broadband operation. This flexibility proves essential for controlling problematic resonances in the low end while maintaining punch in the midrange and air above 2 kHz. The Emphasis section operates pre-compression, providing surgical control over which frequencies trigger gain reduction, while post-compression de-emphasis can smooth harsh artifacts.

The tone section distinguishes bx_glue from straightforward compression emulations. The saturation character scales from subtle harmonic enrichment to aggressive color, while selectable input transformer types (nickel or iron) and a THD toggle between classic and aggressive modes let you dial in anything from transparent glue to heavily characterful compression. For mix bus application, this proves invaluable for achieving cohesion without sacrificing individual track definition.
The plugin handles both surgical and broad-stroke applications effectively. Mix engineers deploying it across busses and groups will appreciate the snap and density it imparts. Individual track users benefit from the tonal flexibility, particularly when addressing problematic sources or mixing in genre-specific contexts where that particular brand of VCA character serves the music. It's capable work that delivers genuine sonic utility.
