About this plugin
Gatey Watey is a frequency-selective gate plugin from Boz Digital Labs that addresses a genuine limitation in conventional gating tools. Where standard gates apply uniform attenuation across the entire spectrum when a signal falls below the threshold, Gatey Watey allows you to isolate which frequencies get suppressed, leaving others untouched.
This approach yields more transparent results than traditional gating, particularly when dealing with mixed-source signals. On drums, you can eliminate hi-hat bleed from a snare track without sacrificing the snare's natural sustain and ring. Electric guitars benefit similarly - the plugin can reduce amp hum and ambient noise while preserving fundamental sustain and harmonic content. The selective attenuation preserves the character of the source material in ways that broadband gating cannot match.

The interface reflects Boz Digital Labs' design philosophy: essentials only, with minimal learning curve. Controls are immediately comprehensible to engineers of any experience level. This clarity doesn't sacrifice depth - the frequency selection allows for surgical problem-solving across diverse tracking scenarios.
Gatey Watey occupies a specific niche effectively. It's not a replacement for precision spectral editing or linear phase EQ, nor does it attempt to be a multi-band compressor. Instead, it solves the particular problem of unwanted signal leakage while maintaining source integrity. For tracking engineers, mixing engineers working with imperfect source material, and producers who value transparent processing, Gatey Watey delivers practical utility without sonic compromise. It represents the kind of focused tool development that advances the craft rather than merely multiplying options.
