About this plugin
Blue Cat's AcouFiend is a sophisticated acoustic feedback simulator that recreates the Larsen effect - the harmonic resonance that occurs when an instrument couples with its amplification system. Rather than relying on convolution or simple distortion algorithms, AcouFiend models the physical phenomenon directly, enabling precise control over feedback behavior that would be impractical or impossible to achieve through traditional amplifier setups.
The plugin excels at generating controlled sustain and harmonic swells on guitars, synthesizers, and vocals. Its core strength lies in independent adjustment of feedback rise and fall times, pitch sensitivity, and amplitude responsiveness - parameters that determine how naturally the effect responds to playing dynamics. The ability to select and transpose the generated harmonic adds genuine creative potential, moving beyond simulation into sound design territory. Chord recognition allows feedback to track complex harmonic material, which is particularly valuable for textural applications.

AcouFiend occupies a unique position in the effects landscape. While amp modeling plugins include feedback simulation as a secondary feature, AcouFiend dedicates its entire architecture to this single effect, resulting in substantially more nuance and control. This focus makes it the tool of choice for engineers seeking authentic acoustic coupling without the constraints of amp selection or microphone positioning.
The plugin is best suited for guitarists exploring extended techniques, electronic musicians seeking organic sustain generators, and producers working with headphones who want speaker-like feedback interactions. Its zero-latency design and robust MIDI implementation ensure seamless integration into performance and production workflows. For those working beyond traditional guitar tones, AcouFiend's harmonic transposition capabilities offer distinctive sound design possibilities unavailable elsewhere.
