About this plugin
BigKick is a hybrid kick drum synthesizer that combines subtractive synthesis with sample-based sound design, offering producers a practical alternative to hunting through sample libraries or layering multiple drum hits. The plugin generates the core drum tone through synthesis while allowing users to import and blend their own samples, creating a unified approach to kick drum design that balances flexibility with character.
The synthesis engine handles pitch, decay, and tonal shaping through intuitive controls, while the sample layer adds texture and attack definition. This dual approach proves particularly effective for matching kick drums to specific bass lines - the pitch can be tuned precisely or played across a MIDI keyboard, ensuring harmonic alignment without resorting to time-stretching or pitch-shifting artifacts. The drag-and-drop workflow streamlines integration with your DAW, letting you export finished kicks directly to your sampler or import sounds from your session.

BigKick's factory library of over 300 attack types and 110 presets provides a solid starting point, with contributions from established producers including the Freemasons and Kris O'Neil. The breadth of the library spans electronic music genres effectively, though the real value emerges when customizing sounds for your specific mix.
The plugin suits producers working in dance music, hip-hop, and electronic genres where kick drum precision matters. Rather than replacing sample-based workflows, BigKick complements them - particularly useful when your sample collection lacks the exact low-end character or attack profile your track demands. It represents a mature, stable tool for a common production problem: achieving kick drums that sit naturally within your track's harmonic landscape.
