About this plugin
BFD JEX represents a focused entry in Inmusic's drum expansion library, centered on a custom X-Drums Xotica kit that prioritizes warmth and definition. The 6-ply Keller Maple shells with vertical Sapeli Pommele veneering create a resonant foundation with pronounced low-mid presence, while the hand-applied tung oil finish delivers an organic, slightly drier tone compared to lacquered alternatives. This particular combination yields drums that sit naturally in a mix without requiring aggressive EQ intervention.
The recording methodology aligns BFD JEX with the label's jazz and funk-oriented expansions, captured in the same controlled environment used for previous collections. This consistency matters for engineers building cohesive kits across multiple expansions. The kick drum benefits from dual beater sampling and includes a Yamaha SubKick mic channel, providing authentic low-end extension for those seeking sub-100Hz presence. Tom articulation covers the essential playing techniques - sticks, mallets, brushes, and rods - though coverage remains practical rather than exhaustive.

The bonus Ludwig SuperSensitive snare bridges toward complementary sound palettes without constraining kit assembly options. BFD JEX occupies comfortable middle ground for producers working in contemporary jazz, neo-soul, or genre-flexible pop contexts where drum character matters but doesn't demand the sculptural possibilities of deeper BFD3 expansions. The kit's inherent warmth and slightly darkened tone makes it particularly suited to sessions requiring minimal processing while maintaining musicality across extended playing dynamics.
