About this plugin
Audio Damage's Circa stands as a sophisticated multi-layer looping environment that bridges the practical demands of performance looping with the open-ended possibilities of ambient sound design. The plugin provides six independent layers capable of operating in isolated or synchronized modes, each triggering via tempo sync, audio detection, or manual control. This architectural flexibility distinguishes Circa from conventional floor pedal loopers, which typically enforce linear workflows.
The core sonic character emerges from Circa's internal signal routing and built-in processing chain. Each layer supports independent filtering and feeds into a unified reverb and delay section, enabling layered textures that range from tight rhythmic stacking to diffuse, spacious soundscapes. The ability to self-record via an internal buss creates feedback pathways unavailable in most looping tools, opening territory particularly valuable for experimental sound design.

Circa's control surface prioritizes tactile engagement through touch strips governing playback speed and position, with optional slice-based subdivision for granular manipulation. The gesture recorder system - capable of capturing and looping virtually any UI interaction - effectively transforms the plugin into a dynamic performance instrument rather than a static effect.
The plugin appeals primarily to experimental musicians, sound designers, and live performers seeking sophisticated looping capabilities within a DAW environment. Complementing its native interface is full integration with monome grid and arc hardware, making Circa genuinely compelling for controllers who prioritize hands-on interaction. Comprehensive MIDI mapping and seven stereo outputs (including dedicated cue monitoring) address professional production requirements. For those willing to engage with its design philosophy, Circa delivers substantially more creative agency than conventional looping plugins.
