About this plugin
Arturia's CP-70 V models the classic Yamaha CP-70, the electro-acoustic piano that defined the keyboard sound of 1970s and 80s pop, soul, and rock production. The plugin combines multilayered sampling with circuit modeling to reproduce the instrument's characteristic tonal blend - the warmth of an acoustic grand piano filtered through electromagnetic pickups, creating a distinctly colored, forward-sounding piano that naturally cuts through dense arrangements.
The architecture uses eight dynamic sampling layers to capture velocity-responsive behavior across the keyboard, paired with modeling of the CP-70's onboard electronics and amplification chain. This hybrid approach avoids the sterile quality of pure sampling while maintaining the specific harmonic signature that made the original desirable. The result is expressive and dynamic, responding authentically to touch and sustain pedal articulation.

Control extends beyond emulation. Users can adjust timbre and bass response, apply detuning effects reminiscent of vintage tape saturation, and manipulate envelope parameters for customization. The pedal rig section offers detailed control of sustain behavior, while effects include vintage chorus and dual amplifier modeling - practical tools for shaping the sound within modern production contexts.
CPU efficiency is genuinely light, making the plugin suitable for dense sessions without the overhead penalties common to sample-heavy instruments. The CP-70 V functions effectively as both a period-accurate solution for retro production work and as a contemporary texturing tool for producers seeking its particular sonic character. It occupies a legitimate niche in the electro-acoustic piano plugin space, delivering the specific sound that session work and commercial production regularly demand.
