About this plugin
The Apogee Vintage / Modern FX Bundle brings two essential Pultec equalizers into your DAW with meticulous fidelity. Developed alongside Pulse Techniques - the current manufacturer of original Pultec hardware - these plugins model new units, capturing the sonic character that made the originals studio standards for over six decades.
The EQP-1A is the broader tool, a three-band parametric equalizer designed for mixing across the full spectrum. Its strength lies in gentle, musically coherent shaping rather than surgical precision. The broad curves and interaction between bands create the signature Pultec sound that engineers have relied upon for subtle but powerful tonal refinement. The MEQ-5 targets the critical midrange with five bands of fixed-frequency, boost-and-cut capability, ideal for addressing problematic frequencies or adding presence without coloration.

Both plugins incorporate circuit non-linearities - the subtle harmonic distortions and gain staging interactions that distinguish hardware from clinical digital emulation. This is where the "magic" resides: the units respond musically to input level changes, adding compression-like qualities and saturation that enhance rather than degrade your sources.
The bundle suits mixing and mastering engineers who value transparent tone shaping, as well as producers tracking vocals or instruments seeking character within clarity. While not a surgical multiband or dynamic EQ, the Pultec approach remains unmatched for cohesive, musical equalization. These are tools that cost thousands in hardware form; the plugin versions deliver identical sonic behavior without requiring Apogee hardware, running natively in any DAW.
