About this plugin
The Apogee Pultec bundle delivers faithful digital recreations of two studio staples that have shaped recorded sound for over six decades. Developed in partnership with Pulse Techniques and modeled directly from Steve Jackson's meticulously recreated hardware units, these plugins capture the sonic signature that defined mixing at Power Station and countless other flagship rooms.
The EQP-1A Program Equalizer operates with the broad, gentle curves characteristic of passive LC circuitry. Rather than surgical cuts and boosts, it shapes tone through elegant band interaction - a quality that preserves musical coherence while solving problems. The included circuit non-linearities introduce the harmonic saturation and compression that makes analog EQ sound "expensive" in ways parametric designs cannot replicate. For mastering, mixing vocals, or adding presence to instruments, the EQP-1A's approach feels less like correction and more like enhancement.

The MEQ-5 mid-range unit provides targeted control in the frequency regions where mixing decisions matter most. Its design prioritizes musical utility over clinical precision, making it particularly effective on vocals, drums, and bass where midrange definition determines clarity and impact.
This bundle suits mastering engineers, mix professionals, and producers seeking the sonic character that justifies Pultec's iconic status. These are not transparent tools - they are tone shapers with distinct personalities. The plugins run natively in any DAW, eliminating dependency on Apogee hardware while remaining compatible with their interfaces. For those seeking authentic Pultec coloration in the box, these represent the most credible option available.
