About this plugin
Reel-To-Reel stands as Antelope Audio's comprehensive answer to tape saturation in the digital domain, built on decades of founder Igor Levin's hands-on experience with vintage tape machines. Rather than simply emulating a single classic recorder, the plugin synthesizes the characteristics of multiple tape formulations and head designs, allowing users to construct their ideal tape sound through granular parameter control.
The core appeal lies in its approach to saturation and harmonic coloration. Four distinct tape types cover the sonic spectrum from aggressive saturation to subtle warmth, while independent controls for bias, tape hiss, wow, and flutter let experienced engineers dial in authentic vintage character without the degradation or maintenance headaches of hardware. The assignable VU meter provides visual feedback consistent with how analog machines actually respond to signal levels.

What distinguishes Reel-To-Reel from competing saturation tools is its architectural depth. Beyond simple distortion curves, the plugin models the interplay between recording speed, tape formulation, and EQ standards - variables that shaped the sonic identity of different eras and machine types. This makes it equally valuable during tracking for monitoring through familiar tape coloration or during mixdown for adding cohesion and presence to individual tracks or buses.
Synergy Core support extends real-time operation with negligible latency on compatible Antelope interfaces, bridging the gap between plugin convenience and hardware immediacy. For engineers accustomed to working with analog tape or seeking transparent, musically-intuitive saturation with genuine technical credibility, Reel-To-Reel represents a genuinely sophisticated choice that rewards deeper exploration.
