About this plugin
ANOMALY represents a sophisticated approach to harmonic manipulation through selective frequency shifting. Developed in collaboration with Virtual Riot, the plugin divides the audio spectrum into three independently controllable bands, allowing users to transpose the harmonic content within each region without affecting pitch or timing. This distinction sets it apart from conventional pitch shifters, which operate across the full spectrum uniformly.
The technical implementation centers on phase vocoder methodology applied selectively across the frequency domain. Each band can be shifted by precise interval amounts, enabling creative harmonic recontextualization of individual source materials. The addition of MIDI keytracking functionality extends the plugin's utility considerably, allowing frequency band shifts to respond dynamically to incoming note data - a feature particularly valuable for creating evolving textural elements from static sound sources.

The inclusion of an integrated ear training game positions ANOMALY as an educational tool alongside its practical applications. This addresses a genuine gap in plugin design, encouraging users to develop perceptual acuity around harmonic shifting effects.
ANOMALY serves producers working with sample-based music, sound designers requiring granular harmonic control, and mix engineers seeking unconventional tonal shaping options. It operates most effectively on complex polyphonic material where selective band manipulation produces musically coherent results rather than artifacts. While frequency shifting itself isn't novel technology, the three-band selective implementation with MIDI control demonstrates thoughtful engineering that elevates the concept beyond basic utility. The plugin occupies a specialized niche within the effects landscape, useful primarily for producers seeking deliberate harmonic transformation rather than general purpose processing.
