Ample Sound's China Xun is a meticulously sampled virtual instrument capturing the 7,000-year-old Chinese wind instrument with fidelity that satisfies both world music specialists and contemporary producers. Recorded by Xiaokui Ding of the China National Traditional Orchestra using three tuned instruments (C, G, and B flat Xun) across five microphone positions, the library totals 4.5 GB of articulation-rich material that reflects the instrument's deep, resonant character without relying on excessive sample looping.

The plugin organizes articulations into two functional groups. The Head Group covers essential attacks and ornaments - sustain, tonguing, grace figures, arpeggios, mordents, pre-trills, and impulses - while the Body Group extends performance vocabulary with sforzando, espressivo, vibrato variants, trills, slides, and legato transitions. This architecture enables both period-appropriate phrasing and integrated melodic passages through Ample's intelligent legato system, which automatically triggers appropriate transitions based on note timing and includes up to five velocity layers for dynamic responsiveness.

Three microphone modes provide mixing flexibility, ranging from intimate front perspectives to ambient distant pairs, allowing the Xun to sit naturally in various sonic contexts. Individual samples average eight seconds, minimizing digital artifacts inherent to stretched sustains.
