About this plugin
EastWest's Gypsy library stands as a comprehensive sampling instrument collection designed specifically for composers requiring authentic Central and Eastern European instrumental voices. The plugin delivers 11GB of meticulously sampled content across strings, winds, and percussion, created by award-winning producers Doug Rogers and Nick Phoenix.
The violin implementation represents the most technically advanced offering here. Featuring true legato intervals with both fast and slow slide variations, the violin articulation set enables genuinely expressive playing across classical and gypsy idioms. The sampling density supports natural phrase construction without the typical artifacts that plague sampled string instruments. The trombone complements this with a robust articulation palette, while the nylon-string guitars - sampled by session guitarist David Kole with multiple picking techniques, velocities, and stroke directions - provide rhythmic foundation with authentic tonal character.

The accordion section includes various configurations with sampled air flow transitions and expressive capabilities, while the bandoneon and cimbalom add genuine textural depth often missing from general-purpose libraries. Percussion elements include traditional gypsy drums plus flamenco dancer samples with authentic foot stomp and castanet recordings.
Gypsy functions optimally for film and television composers scoring European-themed narratives, game audio designers requiring period-specific instrumentation, and contemporary producers exploring world music hybrids. The preloaded settings minimize setup time while maintaining flexibility for experienced sound designers. While specialized in scope, the violin and string articulations prove valuable beyond purely gypsy applications, offering legitimate alternatives to more general orchestral libraries for certain classical contexts.
