About this plugin
Flex Beat is AIR Music Technology's rhythmic manipulation plugin, designed for producers who need dynamic timing control without the complexity of traditional time-stretching tools. The plugin operates on a straightforward premise: select audio, apply rhythmic patterns via its 16 performance pads, and hear your samples conform to new grooves in real time.
The core workflow centers on a grid-based pattern editor where users compose rhythmic sequences with independent control over pitch, velocity, and gate timing. This architecture makes it equally suited to beat chopping, trance-style gating, half-time effects, and reverse processing. The preset library provides hundreds of starting points, though experienced producers will appreciate the ability to design custom patterns and export them in .fnv format for compatibility with AIR's Gross Beat plugin.

Flex Beat distinguishes itself through its pad-based performance interface, which supports MIDI input and three play modes: loop for continuous cycling, one-shot for single pattern execution, and hold for key-dependent playback. This makes the plugin functional both as a production tool and a live performance instrument. The dry/wet mix parameter allows subtle blending with the original audio, essential for maintaining source material integrity.
The plugin occupies an interesting middle ground between simpler beat repeat tools and full granular processors. It's most valuable for electronic music producers, hip-hop beat makers, and sound designers working with loops and samples. While not revolutionary, Flex Beat competently handles a specific workflow with enough precision and preset depth to justify its place in a professional toolkit.
