About this plugin
Aegean Drums is a Mediterranean percussion library built within Raizes Player that delivers authentic hand drum textures for contemporary production. Developed by ZAK Sound and performed by world percussionist Stefanos Athinaios, the instrument captures five traditional sources - bendir, daf, darbuka, davul, and riq - with the technical rigor needed for precise mixing and rhythmic control.
The core strength lies in its articulation depth. Each drum includes multiple stroke types (dums, teks, slaps, trills, jingles, mutes) layered across three velocity ranges with three round robins per velocity. This approach yields natural variation across repeated hits without the synthetic quality common in ethnic percussion libraries. The recording methodology emphasizes both intimate detail and spatial character through dynamic and stereo condenser microphone placement, resulting in drums that sit equally well in tight, focused mixes or spacious, textured arrangements.

The 85 presets span functional territories from traditional rhythm kits to heavily processed textures, dark pulses, and trailer-ready hits. The included 123 MIDI files cover cinematic, trailer, game, and electronic categories - practical starting points rather than constraints, given the underlying instrument's flexibility. Performers comfortable with world music vocabularies will recognize authentic playing conventions while electronic and film composers gain a genuinely organic alternative to sampled or synthesized percussion.
As a VST3/AU/AAX instrument within the free Raizes Player, Aegean Drums integrates seamlessly into existing DAWs without additional licensing friction. For producers seeking Mediterranean textures with technical polish and playability, it represents a credible toolkit that bridges ethnographic authenticity and modern production requirements.
