About this plugin
Equalize 2 represents a mature approach to parametric EQ design that prioritizes sonic flexibility without sacrificing practicality. The plugin's core strength lies in its slope control mechanism, allowing filter slopes from 3 dB to 120 dB per octave across up to twelve bands. This granular control proves invaluable for surgical correction work, where conventional fixed-slope parametrization often falls short. The addition of tilt and bandpass filters expands the toolkit beyond standard peak, shelf, and cut options, addressing specific mixing scenarios that typically require plugin stacking.
The phase mode selection deserves particular attention. Rather than forcing a binary choice between minimum and linear phase operation, the mixed phase mode introduces variable latency between 5 and 120 milliseconds while attempting to preserve phase coherence. This hybrid approach addresses a genuine concern with linear phase EQing - pre-ringing artifacts become audibly problematic only above approximately 20 milliseconds latency, making lower values practical for tracking and mixing workflows where phase relationships matter but latency must remain imperceptible.

The interface demonstrates thoughtful design: dragging filter handles directly on the frequency response curve beats menu diving, and the real-time analyzer provides accurate feedback without visual clutter. Per-band channel mode selection (M/S, L/R, stereo) adds mix refinement capabilities standard EQs omit.
Equalize 2 suits engineers who require precise EQ control without phase manipulation compromises. It occupies the professional-grade tier alongside FabFilter Pro-Q and Waves SSL E-Channel, distinguishing itself through slope adjustability and the mixed phase implementation rather than outright sonic character. The plugin succeeds as a transparent tool rather than a colorful processor.
