About this plugin
DeFilter is Acon Digital's answer to frequency-domain problems that resist conventional EQ. Rather than relying on fixed filter topologies, the plugin analyzes incoming audio and generates a correction curve designed to flatten problematic peaks and dips across the spectrum. This approach proves especially effective for addressing room modes, comb filtering from reflections, and resonant buildups that narrow-band EQ struggles to tackle cleanly.
The technical foundation rests on convolution-based correction, with adjustable filter lengths ranging from 1 to 20 milliseconds. Shorter settings preserve more of the original character while targeting narrow peaks; longer windows provide deeper correction but risk altering the source's fundamental tonal signature. Three operating modes offer flexibility: a reference-matching mode that equalizes to a target profile, a timbre extraction mode that preserves overall character while smoothing anomalies, and predefined profiles for music and speech content.

The interface remains refreshingly uncluttered, with real-time spectrum displays for input and output signals alongside adjustable correction curves that let engineers restrict processing to problem frequencies. This selective approach means DeFilter won't homogenize everything indiscriminately.
For mix engineers facing acoustically challenging recording environments, mastering professionals dealing with problematic sources, or anyone combating standing wave issues in untreated spaces, DeFilter delivers meaningful sonic improvements without the guesswork of manual EQ sweeps. It occupies a distinct niche between linear phase correction tools and traditional dynamic EQ, making it particularly valuable when room acoustics or phase interactions create problems that standard equalization cannot elegantly solve.
