About this plugin
Tectonic is a multiband dynamics and EQ plugin that approaches tone shaping through the lens of frequency-dependent compression rather than traditional static equalization. The core concept is elegant: boosting a band engages both upward and downward compression, while cutting applies downward compression only. This means that pushing a frequency range doesn't simply add level but constrains its dynamic range, resulting in controlled, musically integrated tone changes rather than the sometimes artificial character of conventional EQ.
The plugin's four bands offer selectable transition frequencies between adjacent ranges, allowing precise control over crossover points without the phase artifacts that plague some multiband processors. Each band includes independent mute, solo, and bypass controls, essential for isolating and evaluating changes in context. The per-band Mid / Side panning capability adds dimensional control, enabling stereo narrowing on muddy lows or widening on airy highs with real precision.

Six processing styles adjust the feel and intensity of the dynamics, accommodating different source material and aesthetic preferences. Trim gain per band ranges from -12 to +12 dB, providing sufficient headroom for both corrective and creative applications.
Tectonic excels for mastering, mix finishing, and surgical mixing applications where transparent tone shaping is required. It's particularly valuable for sources requiring both tonal correction and dynamic control without obvious processing artifacts. The 65 factory presets provide thoughtful starting points, though the plugin's design encourages hands-on exploration.
Among comparable multiband tools, Tectonic's compression-based approach distinguishes it from traditional multiband EQs, appealing to engineers seeking sonic cohesion over graphic control.
