About this plugin
The Scheps 73 is a meticulously modeled emulation of the Neve 1073 channel strip, engineered by Grammy-winning mixer Andrew Scheps. The plugin captures both the preamp and four-band EQ section that have defined professional mixing for over fifty years, with particular attention to how the Marinair output transformer imparts harmonic coloration and saturation to the signal path.
The sonic signature centers on the interaction between these components. The preamp delivers the characteristic warmth and presence that makes the 1073 prized for vocals, bass, and drums, while the EQ bands - low, low-mid, high-mid, and high - provide surgical control without sacrificing musicality. An exclusive midrange band derived from the original schematics adds flexibility beyond the hardware's standard configuration.

The plugin operates in mono, dual mono, or stereo modes, with options for M/S processing that enable independent equalization of mid and side information. This approach proves particularly useful for vocal treatments and stereo source material where phase coherence matters. The four monitoring options allow engineers to audition processing decisions in context.
Scheps 73 suits tracking engineers, mix engineers, and mastering professionals who value transparent yet characterful tone shaping. Its preamp section excels on sources requiring both gain and color, while the EQ works across mixing tasks where clarity without harshness is essential. The modeling approach respects the original hardware's behavior, including its interactive frequency response curves, making it a legitimate alternative for those without access to the hardware itself.
