About this plugin
The Trident A Range console represents a singular achievement in analog mixing desk design, and Arturia's Pre TridA captures the essential character of its legendary preamp and EQ section with impressive fidelity. Using their proprietary True Analog Emulation technology, the plugin models the harmonic saturation and frequency response curves that made the original hardware a studio standard across five decades of recording.
What distinguishes Pre TridA from generic preamp emulations is its faithful reproduction of the A Range's particular sonic signature. The preamp stage exhibits the subtle harmonic coloration typical of Class A discrete circuitry, adding dimension without obvious distortion when driven moderately. The EQ section - a three-band design with sweepable midrange - captures the console's musically gentle approach to tone shaping, favoring smooth curves over aggressive surgical cuts.

The plugin suits engineers who appreciate the sound-shaping philosophy of vintage consoles but need DSP efficiency on modern systems. It works particularly well on vocals, bass, and drums, where the preamp's natural compression characteristics complement dynamic material. Compared to alternatives like Universal Audio's 1176 or Neve 1073 emulations, Pre TridA occupies middle ground - less aggressive saturation than the Neve, more musical coloration than transparent interface preamps.
Pre TridA's practical value lies in its low CPU footprint and genuine tonal benefits beyond nostalgia. It functions equally well as a tracking tool through your interface or as a mix-stage processor, making it genuinely versatile rather than decorative. For producers seeking authentic analog character without boutique hardware costs, it represents substantial value.
