About this plugin
MOJO 2: Alto Saxophone from Vir2 Instruments represents a methodical approach to solo horn sampling, drawing from the company's broader MOJO 2 library and isolating the alto saxophone as a dedicated instrument. The plugin contains over 8GB of uncompressed samples across 13 articulations, including sustains, staccato, falls, doits, and various ornamental figures common to jazz and contemporary scoring contexts.
The technical foundation rests on legato sampling that captures inter-note transitions with precision, a critical requirement for convincing solo wind performance. The instrument offers three microphone positions plus a pre-mixed blend option, giving mixing flexibility without excessive CPU overhead. Four era presets reference different recording aesthetics across music history, useful for matching existing material or establishing period-specific character.

Beyond basic playback, MOJO 2 provides practical workflow tools. Ensemble scaling from solo to ten-player sections lets producers thicken passages without layering separate instances. Customizable swell and crescendo lengths accommodate various project tempos, while keynoise overlay blending adds articulation texture that fights the synthetic quality plaguing sample libraries. An integrated effects suite handles further sonic customization.
The plugin targets composers and producers in jazz, pop, and rock contexts who need detailed solo horn work without programming complexity. It occupies a crowded market where competitors like 8Dio and Spitfire offer comparable sample counts and articulation depth, though MOJO 2's ensemble controls and era presets distinguish its practical focus.
The 8GB footprint is substantial but standard for premium brass libraries. MOJO 2: Alto Saxophone suits projects where authenticity and quick iteration matter equally.
