About this plugin
KLANG's Super Saw distills the essence of 1980s synthesizer design into a focused, playable plugin that captures what made instruments like the Yamaha CS60 and Prophet 5 essential to that era's sound. Rather than attempting comprehensive emulation, this tool concentrates on the core appeal of classic supersaw layers - thick, detuned oscillator stacks that defined everything from new wave to early house music.
The plugin implements dual saw wave layers with independent detuning parameters, allowing producers to recreate the characteristic chorus and width that defined these instruments. The architecture prioritizes hands-on exploration over preset diving, with a straightforward lowpass filter providing the tonal shaping necessary to move between bright, cutting leads and warm, padded textures. The filter design suggests analog lineage without sacrificing modern workflow integration.

What distinguishes Super Saw from broader synthesizer emulations is its refusal to dilute focus. Rather than attempting period-accurate UI archaeology or CPU-heavy component modeling, KLANG opts for sonic accuracy where it matters - the oscillator character and filter behavior - while keeping the interface transparent and immediate. This approach appeals particularly to sound designers who understand synthesis fundamentals and producers working within genre contexts that benefit from sonic authenticity without nostalgic affectation.
The plugin occupies practical territory between software recreations that prioritize historical accuracy and modern polymorphic synthesizers. It functions effectively as both a primary voice for vintage-informed production and a character layer atop contemporary sound design. For engineers seeking reliable supersaw tones with the specific harmonic signature of classic 80s hardware, Super Saw delivers with minimal cruft.
