About this plugin
Dropkick is a comprehensive kick drum processor that consolidates eight specialized tools into a single plugin, each addressing distinct aspects of kick drum enhancement. United Plugins engineered this toolkit specifically for electronic music producers working across EDM, drum and bass, techno, and trap, though its approach translates across genres requiring punchy, defined low-end sources.
The plugin's architecture centers on surgical frequency manipulation and transient shaping. Its core strength lies in a high-pass filter implementation that contradicts conventional wisdom - by setting resonance at the fundamental frequency, Dropkick simultaneously boosts bass response while eliminating problematic sub-harmonics. This technique, borrowed from professional mastering practice, here reaches into surgical precision, allowing you to isolate and reinforce specific frequency nodes rather than broad ranges.

The Phase Warp processor handles transient character through lower-frequency phase offsetting, reducing peak levels while maintaining perceived weight. Unlike basic phase tools, Dropkick employs analog-modeled filters that introduce subtle non-linearities, producing smooth transitions and natural warmth rather than clinical phase manipulation.
What distinguishes Dropkick from single-stage kick processors is its layered approach. Each of the eight processors contains sufficient depth that it could function as an independent plugin, yet they integrate into a cohesive signal chain. This architecture suits engineers who need flexibility - you might engage only the resonance filter for minor shaping or deploy the full toolkit for comprehensive kick reconstruction.
The plugin performs capably on both weak source material and already strong kicks, making it equally valuable for sound design and mix refinement. Its strength is precision rather than aggressive coloration, positioning it as a technical tool for producers who understand kick drum fundamentals and want surgical control.
