About this plugin
SILK 2 represents UJAM's refined approach to virtual nylon-string guitar synthesis, building meaningfully on its predecessor with a completely redesigned instrument model and expanded performance vocabulary. The plugin operates through two distinct modes: a phrase-based engine that generates strummed and picked accompaniments with realistic articulation variation, and an instrument mode for direct note-by-note control with access to individual playing techniques. This dual architecture addresses a fundamental production challenge - the need for both quick, musically intelligent accompaniment generation and hands-on performance control when creative intent demands it.
Sonically, SILK 2 captures the harmonic warmth and dynamic responsiveness characteristic of quality nylon-string instruments. UJAM's recording methodology, utilizing multiple microphone setups, provides genuine tonal depth rather than purely synthetic modeling. The smart chord engine translates basic harmonic input into convincing performances, while the character and mix controls - offering four character variants and five mic blend positions - enable substantive tonal shaping appropriate to different production contexts.

The creative toolkit extends to 40 stomp box emulations and 75 Finisher FX modes, though these should be approached as production enhancement rather than the plugin's core strength. The open chords feature provides structural flexibility that benefits both songwriting and arrangement work.
SILK 2 serves producers and composers who need reliable nylon-guitar textures without extensive sampling workflow. It's strongest for pop, singer-songwriter material, and intimate genre applications where authenticity matters but production efficiency is equally valued. The interface design prioritizes accessibility without sacrificing control depth.
