About this plugin
LEGEND is a drum sampler plugin that captures the sonic methodology of 1970s studio recording, specifically the close-miking and dampening techniques that defined the era's drum production. Rather than attempting to recreate '70s drums through synthesis or generic sampling, ujam has modeled the actual engineering practices that shaped those tones, offering users direct access to the aesthetic choices that made those records distinctive.
The plugin provides five drum kits - GRAND, TIGHT, WILD, THICK, and LOOSE - each with measurable tonal differences reflecting various kit configurations and tuning approaches. What distinguishes LEGEND from standard drum libraries is its Dust control, a continuous parameter that adjusts microphone proximity and proximity coloration, allowing producers to dial between different historical miking distances and dampening strategies. This approach acknowledges that '70s drum sound wasn't monolithic but represented deliberate engineering choices made on a session-by-session basis.

The 690 MIDI phrases across 30 styles provide substantial compositional starting material, but more importantly, they're presented as editable MIDI data rather than audio loops, enabling seamless integration with custom production workflows. Individual drum channels remain accessible for parallel processing, compression, or additional effects application.
LEGEND is best suited for producers seeking period-accurate drum tones without aesthetic compromise, particularly those working in indie rock, funk, soul, or lo-fi production contexts. Compared to general-purpose drum plugins, its strength lies in its focused sonic character and engineering transparency rather than versatility. For engineers prioritizing authentic '70s drum aesthetics with professional-grade control, LEGEND represents a practical and competent specialized tool.
