About this plugin
KAYA is UJAM's dedicated drum kit instrument for modern Afrofusion production. Rather than a conventional effects processor, it functions as a rhythmic engine that combines sampled percussion with MIDI loop libraries tailored to West African-influenced genres. The plugin houses 10 drum kits with 16 instruments each, offering authentic percussion tones sourced and designed specifically for afrobeat, amapiano, and afro house contexts.
The real utility lies in its 460 MIDI loops organized across 20 styles with 23 beat variations per style. This architecture allows producers to quickly audition groove templates without starting from scratch, then customize patterns to fit project requirements. The inclusion of 12 Mix Modes provides starting points for sound design, while the Life control offers dynamic variation within static patterns.

Sonically, KAYA prioritizes authentic character over sterile precision. The drum sounds carry the tonal complexity and organic character expected in contemporary Afrofusion work - punchy 808s alongside traditional percussion elements, layered hi-hat patterns that reflect the genre's polyrhythmic DNA, and kick designs that accommodate both the low-end demands of modern production and the rhythmic articulation essential to these styles.
The 75 global presets and 17 reverb/ambience effects provide quick contextualization for different sonic environments. This positions KAYA as most valuable for producers specifically working within Afrofusion territories, though its well-designed groove library and authentic sounds make it practical for anyone seeking non-generic African rhythm foundations. It occupies a distinct category - not a general drum machine, but a genre-focused rhythm toolkit with legitimate professional applications.
