About this plugin
Novum represents a genuinely novel approach to sample manipulation, moving beyond traditional granular and time-stretching paradigms. The plugin's core strength lies in its ability to decompose a single audio sample into six independent layers, separating timbral content from temporal dynamics. This decomposition process provides access to sonic dimensions typically locked together in conventional sampling, effectively converting static recordings into malleable sound clay.
The cross-synthesis engine builds on this foundation by enabling intuitive combination of timbral and dynamic characteristics across samples. The workflow rewards experimentation: lock a sample's tone colors while auditioning different envelope structures from other sources, or reverse the process. This drag-and-drop simplicity masks sophisticated spectral analysis beneath the surface.

Novum's granular synthesis engine includes the proprietary Homogenize feature, which creates smoother, more cohesive textures than classical granular approaches typically allow. Grain timing syncs to your DAW's tempo, making rhythmic granular effects more integrated with your production session. The comb-filter tuning mode effectively transforms field recordings and found sounds into pitched instruments while preserving original character.
Best suited for producers seeking unconventional sound design, experimental composers, and engineers working with location recordings or unusual sources, Novum occupies an interesting middle ground. It's more accessible than Spectral editing tools yet offers considerably deeper manipulation than standard granular plugins. Among similar tools, Novum distinguishes itself through the decomposition workflow and cross-synthesis approach rather than raw processing power. Results range from subtle textural enhancements to dramatic sonic transformation, depending on source material and intention.
