About this plugin
TRAX by Thenatan Audio positions itself as a pragmatic drum machine VST built specifically for contemporary urban production. Rather than attempting to emulate classic hardware, the plugin embraces a modern rack-style interface that prioritizes workflow efficiency and sonic immediacy.
The core offering centers on 50 pre-configured drum kits and over 400 individually processed samples, covering the contemporary landscape from trap to R&B and EDM. Each sample arrives EQ'd and treated, reducing the need for extensive post-processing. The 8-channel mixer architecture provides granular control via volume, pan, pitch, and dedicated FX layers, while 16 stereo outputs enable flexible routing within your DAW. This approach is particularly valuable for producers who need individual drum element control without the complexity of sample management.

TRAX incorporates practical sound design tools: analog-style reverb and distortion, alongside more characterful processing including hiss, noise, crackle, and cassette emulation. Attack and release controls allow meaningful dynamic shaping beyond simple sample triggering. The inclusion of monthly expansion packs suggests ongoing development, though potential users should evaluate current kit breadth before purchase.
Performance-wise, the plugin demonstrates genuine attention to CPU efficiency, making it viable for laptop-based setups with limited resources. This practical engineering consideration distinguishes it from resource-heavy alternatives.
TRAX serves producers prioritizing speed and sonic polish over deep synthesis or vintage aesthetics. It occupies middle ground between boutique drum machines and comprehensive sample browsers, making it most relevant for working musicians who value production-ready sounds with sufficient customization depth to maintain creative identity.
