About this plugin
TC Electronic's BRICKWALL HD represents a mature approach to loudness control rooted in the company's two-decade legacy with the System 6000. Rather than pursuing aggressive gain reduction, this plugin prioritizes transparent peak management, making it particularly valuable for mastering work where sonic integrity cannot be compromised.
The core strength lies in its true-peak limiting algorithm, which addresses a critical oversight in conventional limiting: inter-sample peaks that exist between digital samples but can cause clipping in downstream playback systems. BRICKWALL HD's upsampling architecture catches these peaks before they manifest as distortion, a feature that has become essential for streaming platform compliance without quality loss.

The plugin offers multiple limiting profiles and soft clipping curves, allowing engineers to choose between transparent brickwall behavior and character-driven compression. This flexibility acknowledges that modern mastering often requires sonic personality alongside technical precision. The adaptive, content-optimized limiter profiles automatically adjust behavior based on signal characteristics, reducing the need for constant parameter tweaking.
BRICKWALL HD suits mastering engineers, mixing engineers preparing final stems, and producers working in loudness-limited environments like streaming services and broadcast. Its prevention of inter-sample clipping makes it indispensable for anyone delivering audio to multiple platforms, where bit-depth conversion can otherwise introduce artifacts.
Among mastering limiters, BRICKWALL HD occupies a position between clinical transparency and sonic color. It solves a genuine technical problem without imposing audible artifacts, making it an essential tool for contemporary audio delivery where loudness wars have given way to loudness standards.
