About this plugin
KLANG's Corroded Wires plugin translates the studio's most prized tape saturation effects into a digital instrument designed for character-driven production work. Built from recordings of a Telecaster routed through vintage tape delay systems and tape-based saturation stages, the plugin captures the harmonic coloration and mechanical artifacts that define tape-era recording aesthetics.
The core architecture layers saturation modeling with time-based modulation parameters that emulate tape speed fluctuations. Rather than pursuing clinical accuracy, Corroded Wires emphasizes the audible byproducts of analog tape: harmonic compression, subtle frequency dependent saturation, and a particular looseness in transient response that distinguishes tape from plugin-native compression. The wow and flutter engine provides non-periodic modulation that resists the predictability of standard LFO-based movement, lending organic instability to sustained tones and rhythmic elements alike.

Sonically, Corroded Wires occupies a specific territory between subtle tape coloration and pronounced character distortion. It works exceptionally well on guitar, bass, and vocal sources where added density and harmonic warmth enhance presence without obvious processing. The plugin's particular strength lies in adding cohesion to layered arrangements, as the shared tape character creates a unified tonal bed across multiple tracks.
This tool suits engineers seeking authentic tape saturation without hardware investment or the maintenance requirements of physical machines. Unlike more transparent saturation plugins, Corroded Wires prioritizes personality and a slightly degraded aesthetic - appropriate for contemporary production approaches that valorize imperfection as a compositional element rather than a technical compromise.
