About this plugin
LANDR Strata is a granular synthesis plugin that treats guitar recordings as raw material for textural transformation. Rather than processing a single audio stream, it layers up to four independent sound engines, each capable of granular manipulation while preserving the source material's transient character. The architecture allows simultaneous playback of the original pluck alongside deeply processed granular clouds, a hybrid approach that distinguishes it from purely synthetic granular tools.
The signal chain reflects deliberate hardware choices. All source recordings pass through the Meris Polymoon and Pro Co Rat before digitization, imparting harmonic coloration and natural compression that inform the plugin's sonic palette. This approach yields pads and ambient textures with noticeable saturation and depth rather than the clinical clarity of purely digital processing.

Control surfaces prioritize essential parameters - grain size and timing govern the fundamental character, while dedicated delay and diffusion controls per layer enable spatial complexity. A Color engine adds harmonic distortion, and the Chorus processor handles stereo imaging expansion. The Randomizer function can shuffle effects independently across layers, useful for discovering novel textures without manual parameter adjustment.
Best suited for producers working in ambient, electronic, and cinematic music who value organic textural foundations over purely synthetic soundscapes. Songwriters seeking pad textures that retain human feeling will find the instrument more effective than standard reverb chains. The learning curve is moderate; while 200+ parameters exist, the interface prioritizes immediate accessibility for the most consequential controls.
