About this plugin
MicroShift is a stereo widening plugin that employs pitch shifting and modulated delay to create spacious, dimensional vocals and instruments. The effect hinges on time-varying delay modulation combined with micro-pitched duplicates, a technique refined through decades of hardware design. Soundtoys drew inspiration directly from the Eventide H3000 and AMS DMX 15-80, capturing the harmonic saturation and de-glitching characteristics that made those units industry standards for width and depth.
The plugin operates with immediate intuitiveness. Three preset flavors provide ready-made voicings for common applications, while three primary controls offer surgical precision for experienced users. The Detune parameter governs the pitch-shift intensity, the Delay control shapes the time-based modulation character, and the Focus knob reduces potential muddiness by filtering lower midrange content from the widened signal.

MicroShift excels on background vocals, where subtle width enhances density without calling attention to processing. Lead guitars and synthesizers benefit from the effect's ability to add perceived size without introducing obvious artifacts. The plugin avoids the pitch-shift artifacts that plague cruder widening tools, instead delivering a smooth, organic expansion of the stereo field.
The included Little MicroShift variant strips the interface down to essentials - three buttons and a single knob - making it ideal for quick decisions during mix sessions. For engineers seeking hardware-emulated width with modern flexibility, MicroShift occupies a compelling middle ground between simplicity and control, delivering the sought-after character of classic studio gear without compromise.
