About this plugin
Soundiron's David Oliver's Drum Kit captures a meticulously prepared 1980s Pearl DLX drumset through extensive sampling at The Whitehouse Studios in the UK. The kit combines vintage character with recording-focused engineering, making it a compelling option for producers seeking authentic acoustic drum tones with professional fidelity.
The core drum sounds reflect deliberate tonal choices. The compact 18-inch kick delivers punchy attack with controlled sustain, while 12-inch and 14-inch toms offer articulate response suited to both jazz and contemporary styles. Dual snare options - a vintage Pearl Super Gripper brass shell and a custom Mapex Peace snare - provide tonal flexibility across genres. The inclusion of a hand-built custom 22-inch concert bass drum demonstrates the attention to specification and sound control that defines this library.

Cymbal selection underscores versatility. Beyond the standard Zildjian complement, Soundiron included modified pieces like the artisan-crafted Sabian 20-inch crash ride, hand-finished by Bristol-based cymbal maker Dave Collingwood to achieve distinctly warm, complex tonality. This approach extends to effects cymbals and specialized hi-hat combinations, expanding creative possibilities beyond conventional playing techniques.
The sampling methodology captures multiple stick types and dynamic ranges, from ultra-soft to peak volume, enabling nuanced expression across velocity layers. This depth of sampling distinguishes the kit from more streamlined alternatives.
David Oliver's Drum Kit serves engineers and composers seeking characterful, recorded-ready drums without the constraints of sampling from lesser instruments. It's particularly suited for jazz, fusion, and production contexts where tonal sophistication matters alongside punch and clarity.
