About this plugin
Cymbology is a specialized percussion library that places bowed cymbals and gongs at the center of a comprehensive effects and sound design toolkit. Soundiron's approach distinguishes itself through methodical capture of 20 distinct cymbal sources across multiple articulation types, including sustained bowed tones, dry ice manipulations, and tuned variations recorded in both close and hall microphone perspectives. This dual-position strategy yields genuine flexibility: the close perspective delivers articulate detail suitable for surgical sound design work, while the hall recordings provide the natural reverb and spatial depth demanded by orchestral and cinematic contexts.
The 2,216 stereo samples form the foundation for 138 ambience patches and 20 custom sound-designed presets, but the real utility emerges in the Kontakt interface itself. The plugin implements a full effects rack including convolution reverb, comprehensive filter options, LFO modulation, arpeggiator, and glide controls that enable significant manipulation of the source material. Rather than presenting a library of finished pads, Cymbology functions as a starting point for textural exploration.

This tool aligns most naturally with film and game composers seeking organic, unconventional transition elements and atmospheric textures that resist the predictability of standard synth pads. Sound designers will appreciate the raw cymbal recordings as modulation sources, while experimentalists benefit from the dry ice articulations that produce genuinely unsettling sonic imagery. At 6.15 GB, it's substantive without being excessive, and the 24-bit / 48kHz specification ensures technical integrity for professional broadcast and theatrical applications. Cymbology occupies a narrow but legitimate niche where specificity of source material meets genuine design flexibility.
