About this plugin
Density is a granular synthesis plugin that generates layered vocal and instrumental ensembles from single source material. Built by Sound Particles, it operates across three distinct modes: Basic offers streamlined ensemble creation with minimal parameters, Detune provides intermediate control over grain generation and voice movement, and Pitch enables harmonic stacking with independent frequency, voice count, and level adjustment per layer. This architecture makes it accessible to beginners while supporting advanced sound design work.
The plugin's technical foundation centers on granular processing, which segments incoming audio into micro-duration grains and recombines them with timing and pitch variations. This approach generates convincing doubling and ensemble effects without the phasing artifacts common to simpler delay-based techniques. The spatial rendering engine supports full immersive formats including Dolby Atmos, 7.1.4, and ambisonics alongside stereo, making it particularly valuable for composition and post-production work in contemporary mixing environments.

Density excels at transforming intimate vocal performances into choir arrangements and solo instruments into orchestral sections. The movement feature introduces grain trajectory patterns that prevent static, artificial character. An XY pad enables real-time parameter morphing during performance or mixing.
This educational version carries identical functionality to the commercial release but requires verification of student or faculty status. The plugin suits music producers, film composers, and sound designers prioritizing ensemble expansion without extensive layered recording sessions. Among comparable tools, Density distinguishes itself through its multiformat support and intuitive progression from basic to complex operation, making advanced spatial processing accessible across skill levels.
