About this plugin
Sound Like Nevermind is a meticulously engineered drum instrument that reconstructs the sonic architecture of Nirvana's landmark 1991 album. Rather than offering generic "grunge" aesthetics, Just Add Drums has undertaken the technically rigorous work of emulating the specific reverb chain Andy Wallace employed during mastering, modeling both the Lexicon 480L and PCM90 units that shaped the album's distinctive drum character. The white noise layer integrated into the snare reverb represents an often overlooked but sonically consequential detail from Wallace's approach.
The underlying kit combines a Yamaha Recording Custom Birch kick with a Tama Bell Brass snare, paired with Zildjian A Custom cymbals. The instrument provides six to seven velocity layers across articulations and eight round robins, offering the tonal variation necessary for natural, expressive playing rather than static sample playback. Beyond the core microphone setup, Just Add Drums has added a Shure Beta 91A condenser on the kick and a Beyerdynamic M201 dynamic microphone on the snare top, expanding tonal palette beyond the original recording methodology.

The interface balances immediacy with depth. Quick access to reverb controls via dedicated Short and Long Verb faders allows rapid sonic adjustments, while full multi output routing enables surgical mixing and further processing within your DAW. Individual microphone channel control across kick, snare, toms, and cymbals provides granular shaping capabilities.
This instrument serves engineers and producers seeking historically informed yet sonically flexible drum tones. It's particularly valuable for those working within alternative, rock, or indie contexts where the Nevermind sound remains a legitimate reference point rather than pastiche.
