About this plugin
RIOT Drums 2 is a sampled drum kit plugin designed explicitly for skatepunk, hardcore, and aggressive indie music production. Built by Ugritone, it assembles a curated collection of real drum hardware - Pearl, Mapex, Pork Pie, and Ludwig kits alongside Sabian and Paiste cymbals - processed and sampled to capture the raw, unpolished character of 1990s punk and metal recordings.
The plugin's sonic approach prioritizes punch and clarity in the midrange rather than pristine fidelity. Kick samples from a Pearl Maple 22x18 deliver the kind of woody, resonant fundamental that cuts through dense arrangements. The snare selection spans six different drums, from the bright crack of the Mapex Wraith to the deeper thump of the Pork Pie options, giving producers genuine tonal variety within a cohesive aesthetic. Tom voicings trend toward articulate rather than dark, supporting the snappy attack the genre demands.

What distinguishes RIOT Drums 2 from generic drum libraries is its preset architecture. Rather than presenting endless variations, Ugritone provides five carefully considered starting points - Default Finn Kit, FinnPunk 97, Core of Pori, Lapland Grind, and Spede Metal - each representing a specific production template rather than cosmetic variation. This constrains choice productively, steering users toward sonically coherent results.
The approximately 310MB download size reflects selective sampling focused on the frequency ranges that matter for this music. RIOT Drums 2 functions best as a foundation for artists actively working within punk and hardcore contexts, where its specific tonal choices align with established genre expectations rather than serving as a versatile all-purpose kit.
