About this plugin
Softube's upgrade path to their Complete Collection 2 delivers a meaningful expansion for engineers already invested in the CL 1B Mk II. The primary addition is the SMC 2B Multiband Compressor, an accurate emulation of Tube-Tech's three-band optical compression unit that addresses real workflow gaps in frequency-specific dynamic control. Where the CL 1B excels at broadband compression with analog character, the SMC 2B's independent band processing handles separation tasks without the side-effects of cascading single-band compressors.
The updated CL 1B Mk II receives refinements that improve both usability and sonic transparency, while the Classic Channel Mk II continues its role as a subtle saturation tool that adds presence without obvious coloration. These join the PE 1C and ME 1B Pultec-style equalizers, passive designs that capture the forgiving, musical curve of the original hardware through transformer-based signal paths.

This collection represents Softube's most comprehensive Tube-Tech offering. The sonic signature across all units maintains consistency - warm, slightly compressed-feeling, with the kind of subtle harmonic enhancement that feels less like processing and more like better equipment. The multiband addition is particularly valuable for mastering applications and mixed-source bus processing where independent frequency-range dynamics matter.
The upgrade targets engineers who recognize the CL 1B's strengths and want a more complete toolkit without duplicative tools. It's professional-grade software that respects both the original hardware's limitations and the demands of modern production.
