About this plugin
Softube's Model 77 meticulously models three seminal Japanese synthesizers from 1977, capturing their circuit behavior with sufficient accuracy to serve serious production work. The dual-layer architecture allows simultaneous manipulation of two complete synth instances, enabling complex layering and detuning techniques without CPU-intensive stacking of separate instances.
The synth excels in the warm, slightly compressed character typical of vintage analog circuits. The oscillators exhibit the subtle harmonic coloration of period-accurate designs, while the filter modeling captures the resonant peaks and saturation behaviors that defined synth-pop and early electronic film scoring. The ring modulator, resonant filters, and envelope generators respond to modulation sources with the organic lag and exponential curves of actual hardware, rather than digital precision.

The redesigned interface addresses the original instruments' notoriously dense layouts without compromising depth. Signal flow has been reorganized intuitively, placing oscillators, filters, and modulation sources in logical sequence. Layer switching from the front panel streamlines sound design work.
Model 77 suits producers and engineers seeking authentic vintage texture without the maintenance or space requirements of hardware. It's particularly valuable for electronic music, film scoring, and genre work dependent on recognizable synth character - think Vangelis or Giorgio Moroder aesthetics. The modeling quality stands alongside industry-leading emulations, though users should note this remains an instrument built on 1977 synthesis architecture. Those expecting modern wavetable flexibility or deep algorithmic sound design may find its strengths lie elsewhere.
