About this plugin
Softube's component modelling of the legendary Marshall Silver Jubilee 2555 captures one of rock's most coveted amplifiers with exceptional fidelity. Developed in partnership with Marshall using their museum reference unit, this plugin faithfully reproduces the rare 1987 commemorative amp that defined a generation of high-gain tone.
The 2555 occupies a distinct position in the Marshall lineage. While based on the JCM800 architecture, it introduced significant sonic innovations: a preamp section with three discrete modes (Clean, Rhythm Clip, and Lead) that delivered higher gain than its predecessors alongside a darker, smoother character. The expanded EQ section provides substantially wider tonal range than standard Marshall designs, while the switchable power amp topology - enabling triode mode operation that halves output and softens distortion characteristics - remains a sophisticated technical achievement rarely heard in production amplifiers.

Sonically, the 2555 excels in contexts demanding articulate saturation without excessive aggression. The preamp modes enable seamless transitions from controlled breakup through aggressive lead work, making it suitable for everything from classic rock to modern metal production. The triode mode proves particularly valuable when tracking at lower volumes without sacrificing the silky power amp compression that defines the amp's character.
This plugin integrates natively as a standard effect while also functioning as a module within Softube's Amp Room platform. Recorded cabinets engineered by Tony Platt provide authentic speaker response. For engineers seeking authentic Marshall tone from the late 1980s - or those simply pursuing that specific combination of gain, smoothness, and tonal flexibility - this represents the most accurate digital facsimile available.
